The Office of Clinical Experiences is dedicated to ensuring that all College of Education students receive field placements in school or clinical settings. In addition, the office is responsible for supporting currently enrolled Rowan students applying for certification through the New Jersey State Department of Education. Below is a list of important information to help you understand placement process.

PLEASE NOTE: The approved counties for placement currently are Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem.

  • Background Clearance Requirement:  MANDATORY FOR ALL COLLEGE OF EDUCATION STUDENTS Due to recent changes in state regulations, most school districts now require criminal background clearances for students completing clinical (field) experiences at any level  in their districts.  In order to ensure compliance, ALL education majors and minors MUST complete a New Jersey Department of Education Criminal Background Clearance in accordance with the College of Education’s established instructions and timelines prior to any clinical experience. No student will be permitted to begin a clinical practice or clinical experience placement without the appropriate NJ DOE criminal background clearance.  Failure to comply may result a denial of placement and removal from the course, thus delaying the completion of the student’s  course sequence and possibly graduation.
  • Field placement sites are determined by a number of factors, including established College of Education policy, the commitment to provide diverse field experiences, pre-arranged agreements with districts and/or schools and New Jersey certification requirements. For information regarding any issues such as discontinuous, 10-Day Plans, remediation plan, etc., please contact your program coordinator and department chair.
